Alea Sanchez

Alea Sanchez currently serves on the Board of Education and is running for a second term. Focused on the betterment of her community, she assists in running a local food pantry and co-runs a Facebook page where Garfield’s parents can discuss current trends and issues.

Alea Sanchez is a 28-year resident of Garfield. Originally from Astoria, Queens, Alea moved to the City of Champions in 1996. The proud mother of three adult children, Alea spent many years involved in her children’s education and community endeavors. Alea was a coach for the Boys and Girls Club Coaches Association for over 10 years and is an active member of the Garfield Hispanic Alliance.

Alea has been a community activist for nearly three decades. In 1999, she received the “Civilian Award” from the Garfield Fire Department for her rescue efforts during Hurricane Floyd. At the onset of COVID-19, Alea’s activism took on a greater role as she worked with organizations like Garfield Neighbors and Strangers Helping Strangers to distribute food and necessities to those in need citywide. She was honored for her work by Mayor Rigoglioso and the Council in 2021.

Affably known as “Just a Mom,” Alea boasts over 2,400 followers on her social media page, “Garfield Parents Uncensored,” where she provides daily updates about all things related to Garfield. In 2022, Alea was elected to the Garfield Board of Education, receiving the most votes in a five-candidate field.

Dr. Bogumila “Millie” Swietek

Dr. Bogumila (Millie) Swietek is a distinguished biomedical engineer with extensive experience in academia, research, and industry. A proud graduate of Garfield High School, she holds a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Rutgers University, along with BS and MS degrees in the same field from the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). With a strong background in biomedical sciences, Dr. Swietek has dedicated her career to advancing medical research and education.

She is currently an Adjunct Lecturer in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at NJIT, where she has been teaching since 2021. In this role, she develops and delivers course content for both undergraduate and graduate students, integrating theoretical knowledge with practical demonstrations. She engages students through online and in-person interactions and plays a pivotal role in assessing student performance and coordinating with teaching assistants.

Dr. Bogumila (Millie) Swietek is a dynamic biomedical engineer with a profound impact on academia, research, and industry. Her expertise in medical device engineering, materials science, and regulatory compliance, combined with her passion for education and innovation, positions her as a leading professional in the field. Through her work, she continues to contribute to scientific advancements and the development of biomedical technologies that improve healthcare outcomes.

Aldo Munoz

Aldo Munoz

Aldo Munoz is a dedicated graduate student at the Georgia Institute of Technology, pursuing a Master of Science in Computer Science. With a strong background in software engineering, he previously earned his B.S. in Software Engineering from Western Governors University, completing his degree in just two years.

Aldo’s background also includes professional soccer experience. He played as a goalkeeper for Guadalupe FC in Costa Rica (2022–2023), making 18 appearances with the reserve team. Before that, he played for New Amsterdam FC in New York (2020–2021), where he became the youngest goalkeeper in league history at just 17 years old.

Alongside his professional and athletic endeavors, Aldo has built a strong skill set in technology and software development. He holds multiple industry certifications, including:

  • CompTIA A+

  • CompTIA Project+

  • AWS Cloud Practitioner

  • Axelos ITIL v4 Foundations

He is proficient in Java, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, and has experience with DaVinci Resolve for audio and video editing. His academic excellence has been recognized with two Excellence Awards from WGU for outstanding papers in English Composition.

Aldo is fluent in English, Polish, and Spanish. He is driven by a passion for technology, continuous learning, and personal growth, seamlessly blending his experiences in sports, academics, and the professional world.
